Celebrating International Women’s Day: Black Women We Love

We all know black women are incredible. Despite the negative sides the media likes to portray at times, we know we are amazing beings in every way. We are resilient. Our skin is beautiful. Our hair defies gravity. We age gracefully. And now, we are seeing famous black women conquering their careers, inspiring many more young girls to do the same at such an important time where diversity needs to be treasured. In honor of International Women’s Day, here are few celebrities we absolutely adore that are making moves:

1. Tiffany Haddish

If you haven’t seen Girls Trip, go do after you read this post. Tiffany Haddish made audiences holla with her character as Dina in the film, for which she was widely praised by fans and critics alike. Not only is breaking ground in a comedic film, she made history on Saturday Night Live when she became the first black female comedian to host the variety show!

2. Michaela Coel

Black Girls rock around the world. Just over across the pond, Chewing Gum actress Michaela Coel is shaking things up with her artistry. Coming from a prestigious theatre background, Coel’s Netflix comedy was her biggest breakthrough to date as an actress, writer, and the show’s creator. As of late, she’s made appearances in other groundbreaking shows like Black Mirror. She’s also made her mark in another Sci-fi classic, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I have a gut feeling we will continue to see great things from her.

3. Viola Davis

What’s there to love about Viola Davis? Everything! To sum it up, Davis is all goals! Throughout her acting career, she’s continued to strive for greatness. She blew us away with her brilliant performance in Fences with Denzel Washington. She still rocking it on ABC’s  How To Get Away With Murder. In between winning accolades, Davis remains outspoken on issues like equal pay and representation of women of color in the industry.

4. Rihanna

We’ve followed Rihanna’s musical and personal transformation over the years. It’s incredible to see her accomplish so much in the entertainment world, as well as the fashion world. Now she is dominating the beauty world too with the release of her makeup line, Fenty, last year. We can’t wait to see what Bad girl Riri does next.
