5 Black Holiday Movies We’re Watching this Season

It’s officially December! As much as I love Christmas tunes, nothing gets me more in the mood for the holiday season than a few Christmas movies! Whether the movie is set during the winter or specifically around Christmas, the familial and happy vibes will definitely get you in the spirit as we count down the days to the end of the year.

Are you wondering what movies you should be watching this year? Here’s a look at 5 of our favorite holiday films!

The Best Man Holiday

Black Holiday Movies: The Best Man Holiday

If you missed The Best Man Holiday, there’s a good chance you were living under a rock in 2013. The sequel to the 1999 film, this holiday movie reunites the group of friends for the first time in 14 years. We won’t give anything away, but the film centers on Mia’s request for all their old friends to join them for the holidays. A lot takes place in this movie ranging from betrayal to love and even a little New Edition ode. The film returns with its nine original stars, including: Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan, and Regina Hall.

The Last Holiday

This might not be your last holiday, but it’s looking that way for Queen Latifah in this 2006 film. In the film, Queen Latifah plays a woman who finds out she only has a few short weeks left to live. She then takes off to the Czech Republic to enjoy her last few weeks. The film also stars LL Cool J and Golden Globe winner, Gerard Depardieu.

The Perfect Holiday

If there’s one thing we love about Black holiday movies, it’s the ensemble cast that features some of our favorite actors and actresses. The film follows an aspiring songwriter who tries to make a name for himself in the music business by giving a Christmas CD to a rapper. He then unknowingly crosses paths with the rapper’s ex-wife and the two fall in love. The film stars Morris Chestnut and Gabrielle Union alongside Queen Latifah, Terrence Howard and with appearances from Katt Williams and Faizon Love.

The Preacher’s Wife

Black Holiday Movies: The Preacher's Wife

Although The Preacher’s Wife also takes place during the holiday season, is it probably the least focused on the actual holiday. The film follows a pastor of a small church who is trying to stop his church from closing down. The film stars Courtney B. Vance as “the preacher” and Whitney Houston as “the preacher’s wife.” The film also stars Denzel Washington and Loretta Devine.

This Christmas

Black Holiday Movies: This Christmas

Next in line or even more so than The Best Man Holiday, This Christmas has an ensemble cast of huge celebrities. The film is centered on the Whitfield family and the pressure and obligations they’re going through around the holidays. This Christmas stars Loretta Devine, Delroy Lindo, Idris Elba, Regina King, Sharon Leal, Columbus Short, Lauren London, Chris Brown, Laz Alonso, and Mekhi Phifer.

And there you have it! These are the 5 Christmas movies I’ll definitely be watching this holiday season! What Christmas movies are on your must-watch list? Comment and let us know!
