5 Keys To Healthier Hair

Healthy Hair

Almost every girl strives for a healthy head of hair – whether they wear it curly or straight. Here are 5 keys to adopt that will get you to your healthiest mane yet!

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water throughout the day, everyday. It is recommended that we drink 8 cups of water each day. Water consumption aids in healthy growth. If you’re not a huge fan of water, try infusing it with various fruits for added flavor – like cucumbers, lemons, raspberries or blueberries. Tip: Blueberries are high in Vitamin C, which stimulates circulation for the health of the scalp and hair follicles.

2. Have a Balanced Diet

There’s no surprise in that if you maintain a healthy diet, you’ll also have healthy hair. This is Beyonce 1+1 simple math. Incorporating a healthy diet into your lifestyle is super beneficial for healthy hair. Try adding protein rich foods into your diet, your hair will thank you! Some foods that are rich in protein are – eggs, greek yogurt, and poultry. Protein-rich foods are one of the key ingredients to healthy luscious locks.

3. Get Trims Regularly

Professional hair stylists typically recommend having your ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks. There’s no use in hanging on to raggedy damaged ends; so don’t be afraid to sacrifice a tad bit of length for the health of your hair. Maintaining regular trim sessions, will keep your hair in tip-top shape.

4. Create a Healthy Hair Regimen

Come up with a regimen and stick to a schedule for cleansing and styling your hair. Try to avoid hair products with harsh chemicals such as sulfates, parabens and alcohols. A good tip to consider when trying new products is to reach for water based products. Any product that has water (aqua) listed as the first or second ingredient is a great start.

Also, in creating your healthy hair regimen, be sure to include deep conditioning often, the use of a heat protectant – if you indulge in heat styling, and to make sure you moisturize your hair. For natural hair, believe it or not, water is the best moisturizer for your hair. If your hair is feeling dry, sprinkle it with some water to bring it to life. Lastly, be sure you are locking in all of that moisture goodness by sealing your hair with a light oil. My favorite all-time favorite oil, hands down is coconut oil.

5. Protect Your Hair at Night

This is an important one, and the most overlooked. Make sure that you are properly protecting your strands at night. One of the best decisions that you can make in life is to invest in satin pillowcases. Satin pillowcases are a dream for those who just wish to flop on their pillow after a long day, instead of searching high and low for the satin bonnet. Your cotton pillowcase will strip your hair of all the oils and moisture that you worked so hard to put into your hair. Don’t risk the possibility of breakage by not properly protecting your hair at night.
