Happy Friday! Hoping you all kicked off the first full week of December with tons of holiday spirit. Something about the holidays makes even the most precarious situations just a bit more bearable, don’t you think? This week was one full of black girl magic so let’s get into it!
Natural Hair at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
Last year—yes as in 2015—Maria Borges became the first VS angel to rock her natural hair down the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway. It was epic, it was game changing, it was beautiful blackness on full display. This year, she flaunted her ‘fro once again, but this time with two fellow angels following her lead. Herieth Paul and Jourdana Phillips also rocked their natural ‘fros on the runway as well. Yaaasss. Looking forward to seeing more natural hair in fashion and beyond!
Christmas Queen Mariah at Divas Holiday: UnSilent Night
At the top of the week, the Queen of Christmas reminded us of why she will forever own holiday music. VH1’s Divas Holiday was a festive show dripping in gold, glitter, diamonds, and of course Mariah Carey’s unstoppable rendition of “All I Want for Christmas”. Wearing a bedazzled red and gold nutcracker inspired leotard, Ms. Carey gathered everyone into the holiday spirit. Watch her opening performance if you missed it—and even if you already saw it because you can never get enough Mariah Carey and Christmas.
And the Nominations are In
Music was big this week as the influential recording academy released their nominee’s for the 59th Grammy Awards. So who made the list? Of course, Queen Bey is leading the pack with Lemonade. We’re rooting for her to take home album of the year! Can we talk about how hype we are that Remy Ma also make the list with All the Way Up? She has worked HARD hunny. Well deserved. Other artists who rightfully scored nominations are the usuals like Drake, Kanye, and Rihanna. But quite possibly our favorite nominee has to be Chance the Rapper who had a breakthrough year! We’re rooting for him to snag at least one of his seven nominations.
