Weekly Wrap-Up: 2016 Women of the Year

It’s that time of the week! With the end of each week comes another recap into some of the biggest headlines. From world news to politics and entertainment, we’ve got you covered!

Women of the Year

This year has been BIG for women, and Glamour Magazine just named their women for the year!

The Record Breaker

Starting with the list of winners, we have Simone Biles.” If you’ve forgotten already, Biles took the Summer 2016 Olympics by STORM! Not only did she lead the USA team to victory, but she ended her time in Rio with FIVE Olympic medals.

The Justice Seekers

Women of the Year: Black Lives Matter Founders

Glamour Magazine is definitely “staying woke” with this one. They gave this honor to the founders of #BlackLivesMatter: Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi. This has been a tumultuous year with even more cases of police brutality, and BLM has made it a mission to spread their message while continuing to promote peaceful protests.

Voice for the Girls

Women of the Year: Zendaya

If you look at Zendaya on her social media platform, she is constantly speaking up for what she feels is right. At the young age of 20, she has wisdom beyond her years while still having the ability to appeal to her younger audience. With her large platform, she promote organizations like the feedONE Initiative and UNAIDS.

CMA Backlash from the Beyhive

Beyonce at the CMA's

On Wednesday night, Beyoncé joined The Dixie Chicks at the CMAs to perform “Daddy Lessons.” It’s safe to say that some country fans weren’t happy that Queen Bey took to the stage. Quickly, the beyhive was up in arms. Allegedly after Beyonce took to the stage, CMA removed all traces of Beyonce’s performance from their social media pages due to the backlash of some country fans.

I’m sure you know what happened next! Beyonce’s fans took to social media and the lemon and bee emojis were in surplus! CMA later regrammed a photo of Beyonce’s and have since released a statement that they didn’t delete any Beyonce-related information from their social media accounts.

ONE thing is certain. Dixie Chicks lead singer, Natalie Maines, definitely isn’t here for the Beyonce hate and even stated on her Twitter account that it was her dream to perform with Beyonce.

Best Halloween Costumes

We can’t forget about Halloween! This past weekend, a lot of celebrities went all out with their Halloween costumes. Here are some of our favorites!

Eniko Parrish

Eniko Parrish-Hart

Eniko Parrish (or Hart) definitely showed out with her friends this Halloween! She dressed up as TLC’s Chilli while her friends were Left-Eye and T-Boz. They definitely deserve a best dressed award!

The Carters

The Carters

Did you ever want a black Barbie and Ken doll when you were younger! Queen Bey and Jay Z brought this to life with the adorable Blue Ivy showing off her leather Barbie jacket.

Lebron James

Lebron James

I said Jerome’s in the house! This has CLEARLY been a winning year for LeBron James because if you ask me, he should definitely win something for the creativity of this costume! After Sheneneh, Jerome is probably the next known character from Martin, and King James definitely did the costume justice!

Not only will this day decision decide the majority in Congress, but more importantly, we’ll be electing our new president! Unless you are a Caucasian male reading this, at one point in time, you didn’t have the right to vote in this country, so make sure you use it well!
