Pat McGrath: “The Most Influential Makeup Artist in the World”

When we think of influential black women, the common names you’ll hear are Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Beyonce. One name that you don’t hear often enough is Pat McGrath, but you should. Often, women of color can become frustrated at the makeup industry when many of the products seem catered to women of fairer skin tones. Pat McGrath is a moving force in the beauty world that is making products that work for every woman.

Pat McGrath: Vogue ItaliaHer career began in the 90s where she began working with photographer Steven Meisel where they collaborated for Vogue Italia. Since then she has been creating beauty looks for the elite New York, Paris, London, and Milan fashion weeks. In response to her fabulous work, Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine, believes Pat McGrath to be “the most influential makeup artist in the world.”

In 1999, she was hired by Giorgio Armani to develop a cosmetics line. Soon after, she became the Global Beauty Creative Design Director of Procter & Gamble where she oversees Covergirl and created Dolce & Gabbana: The Makeup.

Although Pat McGrath is yet to become a household name, the brands she works for definitely are. She has worked for Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Versace, and these are just a few names in her impressive roster.

Pat McGrath: Skin FetishMost recently, Pat McGrath has worked on creating her own eponymous makeup brand. Some of her products include Gold 001, a vibrant eyeshadow pigment, Phantom 002, a collection of pigments and blush, and Skin Fetish 003, a facial highlighter. Her latest release, Lust 004, is a collection of lipsticks and glitters that have sold out at both her online website and Sephora. This beautiful lip combination of matte lipstick, gloss, and glitter can be seen on Naomi Campbell at the 2016 MTV VMAs.

In today’s world where social media speaks for everyone, Pat McGrath is letting her resume and products speak for her. With her clear talent and dedication to her craft, it is only a matter of time before the world knows Pat McGrath as “the most influential makeup artist in the world.”
