R&B Singers that Slay

Who said R&B is dead? There definitely was a time around 2013 when R&B went left, but finally, it’s been revived with some incredible artists. It’s great to see more singers bringing a new twist to such a beautiful art form. Here is a list of some great R&B singers to add to your music playlist.

Andra Day

Known famously for her hit song “Rise Up”, Andra Day is an up and coming R&B artist to watch. She has a dark, soulful tone and resembles Emeli Sande with a hint of Amy Winehouse. If you’re into soul, jazz, or doo-wop music, Andra Day is the singer you need to hear. Check out her cover of “Lose Yourself”, her original “Forever Mine”, and “City Burns”.

Kwabs

A UK artist trying to make a splash across the pond, Kwabs is bringing his touch to the R&B genre. He sings with a very deep tone, reminiscent of a young John Legend. His current project “Love and War” is a great mix of pop hits and traditional R&B. If you love a good song to listen to in the car, check out “Love and War”. Another highlight is “Cheating on Me”.

Leon Bridges

Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, Leon Bridges is what all Motown fans have been waiting for. He has the style, the voice, and the songwriting ability to have you hooked. His songs remind me of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. What I like most about Bridges is that the topics he sings about range from love to religion. Make sure to check out “River” and “Brown Skin Girl”.

Moses Sumney

An indie singer, Moses Sumney is a mix of alternative music meets soul. His songs are a mashup of electronic meets R&B. A lot of his content focuses on identity, lifestyle, culture, and love. He even has a Solange Knowles cosign, so you know Sumney has talent. Some songs you should check out are “Plastic”, and “Everlasting Sigh”.
